　　改编自卡夫卡的存在主义小说，以《惊心动魄》(1960)成名的安东尼．柏坚斯饰演异境人物「K」，一朝醒来便发觉差人在旁，说他要接管审判，但无人告诉他冒犯何罪。为了暗示明净，K试图应战司法制度，但悲剧人物始终逃不外卡夫卡式幽闭梦魇。影片卡士庞大，威尔斯照旧袍笏退场，还有法国 大美人珍．摩露，负责拍摄的是布纽尔的御用摄影师。影片以黑白胶卷显现超现实的封锁时空，威尔斯在影象尝试中继续潇洒前行，从庞大的布景和众多的大众演员中，说了然他若何经心筹划出电影的无边国家。威尔斯自言这是他的最好电影。
◎幕后揭秘
　　这部影片改编自卡夫卡的同名小说，原稿并没有章节顺序，小说是按卡夫卡的好友马克斯·勃洛德所整理的顺序出书，但奥逊·威尔斯并未按勃洛德所整理出书的章节顺序改编。而且威尔斯在《电影手册》的拜候时说“（《审判》）是一个犹太常识份子在希特勒下台前写的一出‘芭蕾’。在600万犹太人死于横死以后，卡夫卡就绝不会那样写了。在我看来，那一切都是奥斯维辛集合营存在之前的工作。我并不以为我的结尾有何等好，但它是唯一能够的结尾。”而K虽然“没有犯他被控告的那些罪行，但他仍然是有罪的：他属于一个有罪的社会，他和这个社会合作。”这是一次灰心但布满义务感的改编。
