　　《交换生阿曼达》按照实在故事改编，剧本由曾介入过《CSI:NY》以及《法令与次序》的Wendy Battles创作。1987年诞生的Amanda Knox来自西雅图，是华盛顿大学说话学门生，她作为交换生来到意大利佩鲁贾进修一年的意大利语、德语和写作。她被控于2007年与男友Raffaele Sollecito和洽友Rudy Guede同谋杀戮大学室友，英国人Meredith Kercher。该事务引发了美国、英国和意大利媒体的普遍关注。意大利检察官Guiliani Mignini把Amanda称之为狡猾的狐狸，描述她是一个纵欲过度、冷血无情的杀人犯，终极经太长达两年的诉讼，三人别离被判处26年、25年和16年禁锢。但关于Amanda能否有罪，还是无辜的受害者一向持有争议。今朝Amanda本人正在上诉进程中，Amanda的家人和律师都担忧该片会对她的上诉发生负面影响，但Lifetime还是按原计划播放了该片。
