　　二战中第442步卒团是1943年2月1日由罗斯福总统亲身公布组建的另一支美籍日裔组成的军队，辖3个步军营，第522野炮营，第232工兵连，反坦克炮连、加农炮连、特务连、勤务连各一。有所分歧的是，这支军队是全自愿军队。绝大部分自愿者间接来自美国外乡日裔拘留营地。第100步军营作为第1营（原编制第1营留在国内继续担任练习使命）被编入第442团级战役队。
　　第100营/第442团是二战时代受勋最多的美军军队：该部累计有1.8万人因功受表彰，9486人次因战伤获紫星勋章（第100营是以被称为“紫星营”），559人次获得银星勋章，4000人次获铜星勋章，7次获总统军队嘉奖。2000年6月，克林顿政府还追授该部20人声誉勋章（共33枚）。因其特别功勋，第442步卒团第100步军营至今还是陆军保存的唯一常备预备役步卒单元。
　　在二战竣事后，第422步卒团成为第五军最出色的军队之一，被选派到了华盛顿特区加入了1946自力日的阅兵仪式。当日的美国总统杜鲁门很有感慨地对些兵士说到“你们不但仅要和残暴的仇敌作战，还要面临友军的轻视，但是你们克服了这一切。”1996年克林顿总统向还健在的位当日第422步卒团及第100自力步军营的6位老兵颁布了声誉勋章（the Medal of Honor）。
