◎简　　介

　　在京都岛原游廓，经营着一家水准极为之高的艺伎场所井筒屋。女将初子曾是风光无穷的太夫，可是在丈夫归天后，她洗尽红妆，以一己之力支持着井筒屋的经营，并供养女儿雪子的学业。雪子现在正在东京的音乐黉舍主修钢琴，她和男友预备订婚，可是由于家庭身世的缘由而遭到对方家庭的拒绝。悲伤欲绝的雪子将一切归罪与母亲，以后愤而自杀。初子忙不迭地赶往东京将女儿接了返来，并请求青年医生的场为雪子看病。在这一进程中，雪子的情意渐渐转了过来，和母亲以及其他艺伎的关系也获得缓和，而她似乎也对的场有了好感。
　　生活在假话欺骗中的女性，似乎只要受尽创伤后才能看清一切……
