　　该片作为1973年杰克·尼科尔森主演影片《最初的细节》续集，按照Darryl Ponicsan2005年所著同名小说改编，报告在2003年，越战发生30年以后，曾一路退役的三位老友因同一个目标聚集在一路而发生的故事。前水兵陆战队军医Richard Shepherd的儿子在伊拉克战争中牺牲，Shepherd的两位水兵陆战队兵士老友Sal Nealon和Reverend Richard Mueller前来帮手埋葬祭奠他。Shepherd决议不在阿灵顿国家公墓下葬儿子，而是在朋友们的帮助下带着棺材前往故乡新罕布什尔州，开启了一段苦乐各半的旅程。三人追思旧时光，泛论疾苦的战争若何影响曩昔与现在的生活。
