　　杰布（罗伯特·米彻姆 Robert Mitchum 饰）从小就落空了怙恃，还堕入了父辈的恩怨情仇当中差一点就丢了人命。善良的麦多拉太太（朱迪丝·安德森 Judith Anderson 饰）救下了杰布，将他带回自己家中视如己出。麦多拉太太还有两个孩子索莉（特雷莎·怀特 Teresa Wright 饰）和亚当（约翰·罗德尼John Rodney 饰），杰布虽然同他们没有血缘关系，可是三个孩子再加上麦多拉太太，四人在浊世当中相依为命配合经营着一间小小的农场，一家人之间的关系很是的慎密。
