　　牢狱给了玛丽·米歇尔八天的圣诞假期，玛丽决议去派恩西探望叔叔，火车上碰到了军士扎克，旅途中相互之间有了好感，火车将停靠派恩西，扎克谎称去看姐姐，和玛丽一道在牌恩西下了车。玛丽来到亨利叔叔家，莎娜阿姨很是兴奋，只要亨利叔叔的女儿芭芭拉对她心存芥蒂，由于她不领会玛丽为何在牢狱服刑，但她得知工作的真相后，她为自己对玛丽所做的一切感应惭愧。扎克到莎娜家作客，和他们在一路很是的欢畅，似乎不再去想战争带给自己的伤痛，但他偶然行为的怪异让玛丽有些受惊，他向玛丽坦诚了一切，玛丽激励他克服“战士神经病”。圣诞钟声敲响，新年到了，他们向往着美好的未来，短短几天的相处，玛丽和扎克已深爱着对方，分手让相互都很疾苦，扎克要回医院接管治疗，玛丽也该回牢狱了，可怎样样告诉扎克呢，玛丽很为难，不知他能否了解？能否还能爱她？玛丽决议另找机遇告诉扎克。扎克前来与大师离别，芭芭拉无意中说出了玛丽服刑之事让扎克一时难以接管，他以为玛丽不应向他隐瞒，一变态态的踏上火车离去，扎克突如其来的改变玛丽悲伤不已，芭芭拉晓得自己闯祸了也很是歉疚。玛丽悲伤的踏上回牢狱的路，在牢狱门口却见到在此等待多时的扎克，又惊又喜，他们将一路面临一切困难。
