　　唐那德 柯勒尔有一个狂妄残暴的母亲柯勒尔夫人（Ruth Dardick饰）。为了撤除所谓附在柯勒尔身上的魔鬼，母亲屡次把他置于火上烘烤。多年后，柯勒尔长大成人，成为了新泽西州一位火炉工人。一日，工场的焚烧炉发买卖外泄露事变，一位同事被放射出的火焰烧伤，疾苦不胜，柯勒尔目击了这一切，隐藏在心底那些惨重的记忆再次显现，因此他拒绝了朋友邀他饮酒压惊的倡议，回抵家中，发现他的体弱的母亲已经在熟睡中死去。柯勒尔毕竟永久地摆脱了肆虐成性的母亲，但多年来压制在心底的疾苦和怨恨并没有因母亲的归天而安心，反而在延续的刺激下忽然爆发，心理极端扭曲的他在家里装备一个金属铁屋和火焰放射器，并将一个在舞蹈时碰到了酷似母亲的长着亚麻色头发的女郎Kathy Jordan (Johanna Brushay饰)拐骗抵家里，将她关入铁屋，用火焰放射器烘烤她；柯勒尔自己则穿上母亲的衣服，以母亲昔时的口气斥责Jordan。夜幕低垂，柯勒尔又起头寻觅下一个长得象自己母亲的女郎……
